((Happens 1 month before whatever month it currently is.))
As Chione lay on a common ledge for relaxing, she knew she would not fall asleep tonight. The same worries kept her up, worries about a mate that she thought would be with her forever. It was unusual, though it happened, that cats would vanish. She knew she had to think about her cubs, so she did, at least during the day. At night, however, images of her mate lost and hurt somewhere plagued her mind.
She wasn't sure how long it had been that these images haunted her tonight, but suddenly it was hard to keep her eyes open. Soon, she had fallen into a peaceful sleep. Slowly, she opened her eyes to find herself in a moonlit area. Was it always so bright here? Where had she fallen asleep? Certainly not in the jungle, with trees and bushes surrounding the pond she was sitting at. Why had she needed to come down here?
All of her questions were answered when a black cat appeared; a panther with green eyes. Suddenly everything made sense: this was a dream.
"Hello. I am Luna," the cat dipped her head in greeting. "I have news."[/color]
It was hard to believe what was being said; the only news that would come to her would have to be about her mate... right? However, sadness was evident in Luna's features.
"He is dead." She stated.
Grief hit Chione like a paw to the face, claws unsheathed; her love was dead. How was this possible? Why.... "Why didn't you know sooner?"
Luna seemed disappointed when the question was asked, though it took Chione several moments to realize that she was disappointed in herself. "He was not within my reach. It is possible he was still alive for a part of that time." Her voice turned quiet, "I cannot know everything."
After a few moments of trying to piece together what was left of her life and her feelings, she glanced at Luna again, just as the priestess started to speak.
"You will have another love." It was said with complete certainty.
Chione was startled, then hopeful, before her face fell once more. "How... how can I just abandon him?"
A long time passed before Luna spoke, so long that Chione wondered if she was going to answer her or not.
Finally, Luna shook her head. "You will not abandon him. You will always remember, but you need to move on. We cannot control what happens in our lives, but we can control what we do. "
Chione once again had to think about her life. Where would she go from here? The answer was obvious: she would continue what she had always done, taking care of and guarding cubs. It was her duty.
"My cubs.... I'm so worried about them. What will they do?"
There was silence again before an answer, making Chione wonder if Luna was always like this.
"Your cubs will be adults before you know it. They will be fine under the care of you and those around them. They will follow their own paths."
"Adela has already shown promise as a hunter," To this, Luna nodded. "but Aideen...."
"Aideen will know her own path soon enough. It is a mother's nature to worry, but your cubs will be fine. Her path may be closer than you think."
Before Chione could question what that meant, she had the odd feeling that she was being dragged from the current area. Waking up.
"Thank you," she said sincerely. Luna was silent, only flicking her tail in response.
Chione blinked her eyes against the harsh sunlight, slowly adjusting to the world. As she glanced around, she noticed how bright it was. She had overslept. After standing up and stretching, she started walking to where the cubs would be. Life moved on.
That night, however, she buried a flower in the area usually used for graves instead of a body they would never find.
((Hopefully this is okay, I just went with whatever. Should I use 'matron' instead of mother? Do they bury their dead? Hmm. I'll change things if I need to.))
